Harlem’s Apollo Theater will resurrect “Dreamgirls” a year from now with a national tour. The world famous theater is the place where the opening scene takes place. Directed and choreographed by Bobby Longbottom, the revival will premiere in November 2009. The show's producers will hold open auditions Saturday at the theater to cast the three Dreams, a female singing group that is the focus of the musical, according to the AP. |

A dedication ceremony was held by Seatle Center Fund for the late playwright August Wilson. A portion of Republican Street in Seattle was renamed August Wilson Way. Wilson, whose work chronicled African American life in the 20th century, lived in Seattle from 1994 until his death in 2005. |

After a three year break, DanceAfrica Chicago is back. Presented by the DuSable Museum of African American History, it makes its first main stage appearance with a West African Odyssey on Friday, October 31, 2008 at 8:00PM at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance in Millennium Park. DanceAfrica Chicago began in 1991 as a week long celebration including an African bazaar, a four-day series of lectures, demonstrations and community based performances and three nights of performances presented by the Dance Center of Columbia College. Now in a new home, this explosive celebration of culture takes on a new form. |
